Grape Seed Extract Uses

Grape seed extract is taken from the small seeds and sometimes the skins of red grapes. These are the same kind of grapes that is used to make red wine and that have been touted for years to be capable of reducing heart disease. Grape seed is known to be rich in flavonoids and phytochemicals which are capable of acting as very potent antioxidants. For years antioxidants have been known to prevent and control various health ailments.

Grape seek extract is used in Europe for the treatment of many different illnesses including symptoms associated with diabetes as well as leg cramps, varicose veins, arm and leg numbness, impotence and macular degeneration as well as cataracts.

It is further believed that endometriosis may be improved by grape seed. Endometriosis is primarily affected by the release of prostaglandins. Grape seed extract may be able to intervene by blocking the release of chemical, which causes pain and inflammation; eventually resulting in endometriosis. Other studies indicate that grape seed is capable of actually penetrating cell membranes due to the fact that it contains antioxidants. One of the most amazing facts about grape seed is its ability to protect the brain from free radical damage.

It has now been used traditionally in facial creams in order to help skin retain its elasticity. Certain skin disorders such as psoriasis and eczema may also be treated with grape seek, due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Other uses of grape seed include its application for preventing heart disease. It is thought that the risk for heart attack and stroke might be reduced through the use of grape seed; which is believed to prevent the buildup of plaque that can clog arteries.

Fibromyalgia, a disorder which presents with chronic muscle pain and stiffness, may also be relieved through the use of grape see. Again, the potent antioxidants contained within grape seed is believed to be responsible for protecting muscles affected by this disease.

For years, antioxidants have been associated with the power of deterring cancer. They are known to be able to scavenge free radicals in the body and actually root them out; thus stalling certain cancers such as breast, stomach, colon, prostate, skin and lung cancers.

The progression of macular degeneration and cataracts may also be slowed due to the fact that grape seed has been proven capable of improving the blood flow in small blood vessels contained within the eyes.
