| Being classified as a polyphenol, Resveratrol
is a chemical substance created by a variety of plants, starting
from vines to peanuts and pine trees. The substance has been used
in Asian medicine for hundreds of years, especially in liver and
heart problem treatments. Resveratrol was classified as a toxin
for a long time by western scientists and is only now breaking ground
as far as knowledge and popularity are concerned.
In the last few years, more and more scientists got involved in
research focused on the potential positive effects of Resveratrol.
Studies have shown that people consuming moderate amounts of wine
(especially French wine) can eat large amounts of fatty food without
having to face severe heart problems. As you can imagine, this brought
a lot of interest on Resveratrol and today it is being considered
one of the main beneficial elements found in red wine. The amounts
of the substance depend on the genetic structure of the grapes the
wine is made from, and French grown grapes are in the top position.
There are many applications in which the substance can be used
with great results, but cancer treatment is the most interesting
of them. Resveratrol has the merit of being the first ever naturally
produced substance that can stop or eliminate some stage of cancer.
It works very well in preventing the outbreak of cancer by keeping
red blood cells healthy and ensuring a good blood flow and cell
regeneration. Apart from prevention stages, it is also being used
in order to diminish the negative effects of cancer.
One of the ways Resveratrol blocks cancer is by stopping the gene
interferences of androgens and estrogen. It works well even with
cancer cells that are estrogen receptors, whether they are positive
or negative. Resveratrol is known to actively eliminate cancer cells,
even the ones that do have the tumor suppressor gene. Cancer cells
also cause more problems by beginning metastasis to bone. While
Resveratrol worked moderately well with colon cancer, it proved
to be extremely effective in the cases of patients suffering from
breast, renal and pancreatic cancer.
Resveratrol is also used successfully to aid chemotherapy. It enhances
the ability of the D vitamin to inhibit the fast rate growth of
cancer cells, thus stopping the spread of the disease. Research
also shows that some of the previously drug resistant cancer cells
are now being affected by specific anti cancer drugs such as (Navelbine,
Gemcetabine, Paclitaxel, cisplatinum, and TRIAL).
One of the other aspects that recommend Resveratrol as a good anti
cancer agent is the fact that it combats linoleic acid. The acid,
found in most western diets, transforms to hormone like substances
that stimulate cancer growth. The beneficial effects come from the
fact that Resveratrol has a good ability to differentiate healthy
cells from infected ones. Chemotherapy works well on combating cancer
cells, but, unfortunately, it also damages healthy ones. Resveratrol
eliminates problematic free radicals and never interferes with the
actions of he healthy cells. It also protects the healthy cells
by activating various chemicals, such as enzymes or hormones.
