| Also known as curcurma domestica or cucurma longa,
Turmeric is native to Asia where it has many uses, from spices to
medicine. The strong pigmentation exhibited by the plant makes it
an ideal candidate for various forms of coloration. The yellow color
of Turmeric is often found in the composition of mustard but it
can also be found in synthetic dyes for clothing or even hair dyes.
However, Turmeric offers a lot more than a nice color and a tasty
spice for the table.
There are many beneficial elements in Turmeric’s chemical
composition. It has excellent antioxidants that are vital for any
living organism, as they keep the number of potentially negative
free radicals low. It also possesses advanced anti-inflammatory
qualities that recommend it as a good infection stopper. Often used
in herbal medicine, Turmeric is getting more and more popular in
modern drugs as well. While the quantities of Turmeric acquired
through food are not very high, this can be compensated by the use
of a supplement.
Medical use usually requires about 2-3 grams of Turmeric for maximum
effects, taken on a daily basis. The beneficial effects are efficient
if the herb is taken three times as day, with meals. However, please
keep in mind that this is a natural cure, and, even though it is
powerful, the first effects will only show weeks after the treatment
is begun. Herbal supplements usually keep all the nutritive qualities
of the herb, while spices might have fewer positive effects, especially
if they have been exposed to adverse conditions. Determining the
right dosage and quality of the herbal supplement is important,
as not all herbs and supplements offer a standardized version of
Turmeric.
The fact that Turmeric works well against infections makes it a
potential candidate to combating psoriasis. However, determining
the right quantity to use for a specific infection is difficult
and it varies from one person to the other. Medical supervision
and advice should also be sought before starting a treatment with
Turmeric (or any other dietary or herbal supplement). Turmeric helps
reduce the negative effects of psoriasis but it will not cure the
problem on its own.
How does Turmeric reduce psoriasis? As you know, psoriasis is a
skin condition that manifests itself through irritation and also
joint problems. The illness activates certain cells that are part
of the immune system and they begin affecting areas of the skin.
This results in red patches and spots and other types of skin damage.
Arthritis may also develop from psoriasis and it will affect the
joints of the patients. Turmeric supplements may indeed help reduce
the levels of infection, but a complete psoriasis treatment involves
other medicine prescribed by the doctor.
